Uncommon is operated by West Canning Media, LLC, doing business as chiefcustomerofficer.io ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it. By using the Uncommon community platform, you agree to the practices described here.
When you sign in via Google or LinkedIn OAuth, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from those providers. You may also provide your job title, company name, LinkedIn profile URL, focus areas, tech stack, and short free-text answers about what you can help with and what you’re looking for when completing your profile. This information is stored in our database and displayed to other community members via the member directory and member profile pages. You can hide your LinkedIn URL from other members from your profile settings; the field remains on your record but is not returned in the directory response when this is off.
The profile setup flow includes an optional “Enrich from LinkedIn” step. If you use it, the text you paste into that field is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API so the model can suggest structured profile fields (focus areas, what you can help with, what you’re looking for, company situation). Suggestions are shown to you for review before anything is saved. Nothing is sent to Anthropic until you press the enrichment button.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number, expiration date, or CVV — those stay with Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID, subscription status, plan type, and billing period end date so we can manage your membership access.
Posts, comments, resource files, and any attachments you submit are stored on our platform. This content is visible to other community members. If you delete content, it is soft-deleted (hidden from view) and permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
When you create or edit a post, the post title and body are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to generate a one-line “feed hook” and to suggest a category tag. These calls are automatic and happen on every post write.
We track activity signals including post views, upvotes, comment counts, resource downloads, resource copies, event RSVPs, and search queries. This data powers the feed ranking algorithm and helps us understand how the community is being used. Usage events are attributed to your account and logged with a timestamp and source (web or API).
As part of onboarding, members are required to accept Uncommon's Community Guidelines before accessing the community. We collect and store your name, the timestamp of your acceptance, and your IP address as a record of that agreement. This record is retained as part of your membership history and is not deleted when your membership ends or when you request deletion of other account data.
If you create a Personal Access Token (PAT) or connect via the OAuth flow for the Uncommon MCP server, we store a hashed version of your token and log which tools are called on your behalf. Plaintext tokens are shown only once at creation and are never stored by us.
If you accept analytics on the consent banner that appears on your first visit, we load Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the site is used — pages visited, time on page, referring URL, approximate location, device type, and browser. GA4 anonymizes IP addresses before processing. We do not link this data to your account profile, and we do not use it for advertising. If you decline (or haven’t made a choice yet) GA4 is not loaded at all.
You can change your mind any time below in the “Analytics Cookies” section, or directly via Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Google’s own data handling is governed by their privacy policy.
When you RSVP to a community event through Uncommon, your name and email are shared with Luma (our event management platform) so they can send you a confirmation email and calendar invite. Luma's privacy policy governs how they handle that data.
We share your data with the following services to operate the platform:
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
We retain your account data and content for as long as your membership is active. If you cancel your subscription and request deletion, your account is soft-marked for deletion immediately and permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. Signing back in during that window cancels the deletion.
Per-user engagement events (views, upvotes, copies, comments, RSVPs) are retained for up to two years, after which older rows are automatically purged. Aggregate analytics derived from that data may be retained indefinitely in de-identified form. Content you posted may remain visible if other members have interacted with it; you can request removal by contacting us.
Community Guidelines acceptance records are retained as part of your membership history and are not subject to deletion requests. This includes your name, acceptance timestamp, and IP address collected at the time of acceptance.
Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR, CCPA, or other applicable privacy laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, email us at uncommon@customersuccess.io. We will respond within 30 days.
We use HttpOnly session cookies to keep you signed in. These cookies are strictly necessary for the platform to function and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
If you accepted analytics on the consent banner, Google Analytics 4 sets a small set of first-party cookies (most notably _ga and _ga_*) to recognize your browser across pages within the same session. They expire on their own; you can also delete them via your browser settings any time.
Your current choice is stored locally in your browser (key uncommon-analytics-consent). You can reset it below — that will hide GA again and show the consent banner on your next page load.
Your current analytics choice: Not decided
Uncommon is intended for professionals aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has registered, contact us and we will promptly remove the account.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice in the community. Your continued use of Uncommon after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
